Moves to IR, out for season

The Browns placed Chubb (foot) on injured reserve Wednesday.

While Chubb isn't expected to require surgery to repair the left foot he fractured in this past Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, the injury will keep him sidelined for the final three games of the season. Jerome Ford is expected to step in as the Browns' lead back in place of Chubb, whose future in Cleveland is muddled. The four-time Pro Bowler is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring, and while Chubb has said he would like to finish his career in Cleveland, it's unclear if the organization feels the same. After sustaining a significant left knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Chubb didn't make his 2024 debut until Week 7 and lacked his usual explosiveness as a runner. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry -- by far a career-low -- on 102 totes and scored four touchdowns over his eight appearances before going down with the fractured foot.

Not expected to need surgery

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday he doesn't expect Chubb (foot) to require surgery to address the broken left foot he suffered during Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Stefanski indicated that Chubb is done for the year but that he's facing a "shorter-term recovery time" than he did last offseason, while rehabbing from a severe knee injury, Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland reports. Nonetheless, this marks the second year in a row in which Chubb has had his season end early due to injury, and will begin his offseason focused on rehabbing. The soon-to-be 29-year-old is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year in March, making his future with Cleveland uncertain. For the remainder of the 2024 campaign, beginning Sunday versus Cincinnati, Jerome Ford looks positioned to operate as the No. 1 running back for the Browns, with D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong also available as depth options.

Sustains broken foot

Head coach Kevin Stefanski relayed that Chubb broke his foot during Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

With Chubb presumably set to miss time down the stretch, Jerome Ford is poised to see an increased role in the Browns' backfield going forward. Additionally, in the wake of Chubb's injury, D'Onta Foreman figures to re-enter the team's backfield mix, with Pierre Strong also available to handle change-of-pace snaps.

Leaves Sunday's game

Chubb won't return to Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a foot injury.

Before being forced out of the contest, Chubb carried nine times for 41 yards. While he's sidelined, Jerome Ford is next in line for the Browns' Week 15 carries.

Posts 48 yards in loss

Chubb rushed the ball 11 times for 48 yards in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers. He did not record a reception on one target.

Chubb was in an even split in the backfield with Jerome Ford for the entire day. While that limited his volume, Chubb did manage a 19-yard run -- his longest of the season. He's now gained between 48 and 59 yards on the ground in four of his seven games this season, though the ongoing split in the backfield will continue to limit his fantasy appeal.

Records receiving TD in loss

Chubb rushed nine times for 21 yards and secured both targets for 24 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 41-32 loss to the Broncos on Monday night.

Chubb and Jerome Ford both logged the same number of carries, but the latter recorded 20 more rushing yards. However, Chubb was the only one of the two that got into the end zone, as he recorded a five-yard scoring grab with just under nine minutes remaining to erase a 31-25 deficit. The touchdown was Chubb's first through the air since Week 18 of the 2022 season and fourth overall since making his Week 7 season debut. Chubb will look to hit paydirt again in Week 14 versus a Steelers squad he tallied a pair of rush TDs against in Week 12.

Two TDs in busy game

Chubb rushed 20 times for 59 yards and two touchdowns and secured his only target for one yard in the Browns' 24-19 win over the Browns on Thursday night.

After a Week 11 outing against the Saints where his workload was intentionally kept light, Chubb handled his largest carry total yet in his five-game season and made good use of the opportunity. The talented veteran back found the end zone from two yards out in both the second and fourth quarters, his first scores since his Week 7 debut. Chubb's second touchdown also provided the game-winning points for Cleveland, and his yardage was a new season high. Chubb will now extra down time before a Week 13 Monday night matchup on the road against a tough Broncos defense on Dec. 2.

Week 11 usage was planned

Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that having Chubb play 22 snaps in Week 11's loss to the Saints was planned with the quick follow-up Thursday in mind, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. The Browns host the Steelers in Week 12.

The snap count against the Saints was the lowest since Chubb made his season debut in Week 7, and his 11 carries matched a season-low (also in Week 7). The running back had his best game in Week 11, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and looked closest to the pre-injury version of Chubb than seen in his four games played. Thursday is shaping up to be real AFC North weather in Cleveland with a 90 percent chance of precipitation (both rain and snow) and wind. Jameis Winston has chucked the ball at least 41 times since becoming the starting quarterback, but Thursday's forecast suggest the ground game will be important.

Modest numbers again in Week 11

Chubb carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints.

The game didn't get away from the Browns until the fourth quarter, but Chubb still failed to get a big workload, even coming off a bye and facing what has been a vulnerable New Orleans run defense this season. Cleveland may simply no longer view Chubb as a viable bell cow after last year's serious knee injury, so while he should remain at the top of the depth chart ahead of the likes of Jerome Ford, his days of seeing 20-plus touches on a consistent basis may be over. Chubb isn't likely to break out in Week 12 against the Steelers, a team he's only scored two rushing touchdowns against in 10 career meetings.
