Tua Tagovailoa Headed for IR

The Dolphins plan to place Tagovailoa (concussion) on injured reserve in the coming days, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network report.

Once the transaction is official, Tagovailoa will be ineligible to play in any of the Dolphins' next four games and won't be a candidate to return until at least Week 8. Though Tagovailoa reportedly isn't considering retirement after he sustained his fourth documented concussion in the past five years during this past Thursday's loss to the Bills, the Dolphins aren't offering a timeline for his return while he meets with outside neurologists and awaits clearance from all five steps of the NFL's concussion protocol. Skylar Thompson -- who relieved Tagovailoa against the Bills -- is slated to take over as the Dolphins' starting quarterback beginning with Sunday's game in Seattle.
