Goes on IR, done for season

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-29

The Texans placed Diggs (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday.

Houston quickly moved Diggs off the 53-man roster after head coach DeMeco Ryans relayed earlier Tuesday that an MRI confirmed that the standout receiver suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee on a non-contact play late in third quarter of Sunday's 23-20 win over the Colts. The Texans will look to get by with Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods and John Metchie in their Week 9 matchup with the Jets on Thursday, but top wideout Nico Collins (hamstring) appears to be trending toward a return from IR in Week 10 and should help offset the loss of Diggs. Meanwhile, the soon-to-be 31-year-old Diggs will head into free agency this offseason rebounding from a major injury after producing a 47-496-3 receiving line on 64 targets through his eight games with Houston.

Done for the year with torn ACL

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-29

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday that Diggs (knee) has been diagnosed with a season-ending right ACL tear, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Diggs went down with a non-contact right knee injury during Houston's 23-20 win over the Colts on Sunday, and while it took longer than usual the team to confirm the severity of his injury, the veteran wideout has indeed been diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear. The nature and timing of the injury is a brutal development for Diggs, who was playing out the 2024 campaign on a one-year, $22.52 million restructured 'prove-it' contract with the Texans. Diggs is now scheduled to hit free agency while facing a recovery timetable that may put his availability for the start of the 2025 campaign in jeopardy, while Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson and Robert Woods become positioned to start for Houston in three-wide sets, at least until Nov. 10, the earliest date that Nico Collins (hamstring) will be eligible to return from IR.

Estimated as DNP Monday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-28

Diggs (knee) was listed as a non-participant in Monday's estimated practice, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Coach Demeco Ryans has yet to give any updates on his star wideout after Diggs went down with a non-contact knee injury in Sunday's eventual win over the Colts. The Texans now have a quick Week 9 turnaround with a Thursday night game against the Jets up next. Nico Collins (hamstring, IR) isn't eligible to return until Week 10, so the Texans could be down to Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, John Metchie and Robert Woods at wide receiver versus New York.

Suffers noncontact knee injury

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-27

Diggs suffered a noncontact knee injury in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Colts, and coach DeMeco Ryans said after the game that the wide receiver's injury is still being evaluated, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.

There is a wide range of possible outcomes for Diggs' knee injury, but the noncontact nature of the injury points to the possibility of a torn ACL, which would be season-ending. An update on Diggs' status should surface in the coming days as additional tests are performed on the injury.

Injures knee Sunday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-27

Diggs was forced out of Sunday's game against the Colts with a knee injury.

Per DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com, Diggs walked off on his own power before heading to the locker room, but this is a situation to monitor nonetheless. In Diggs' absence, Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods and John Metchie are left to handle Houston's WR duties versus Indianapolis.

Modest output as Stroud struggles

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-20

Diggs caught five of seven targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Packers.

Diggs had just three receiving yards in the first half and was only marginally better in the second half as C.J. Stroud threw for only 86 yards in the game. The veteran wide receiver's modest contributions included a two-yard catch on third-and-1 to extend a fourth-quarter drive that culminated in Ka'imi Fairbairn's go-ahead 35-yard field goal with 1:44 remaining, but the Packers responded with a game-winning Brandon McManus field goal as time expired to drop the Texans to 5-2. Houston's passing game has a nice opportunity to bounce back at home in Week 8 against a leaky Colts defense that Diggs burned for two touchdowns back in Week 1.

Finds paydirt in Week 6 win

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-13

Diggs caught six of seven targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 41-21 win over the Patriots.

Diggs caught a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter for his fourth overall score through six games with the Texans. His usage wasn't markedly different in the first of at least four games Nico Collins (hamstring) will spend on injured reserve, as Tank Dell (57 yards and a touchdown on nine targets) was the biggest beneficiary of Collins' absence. Diggs has at least six targets in every game this season, and he's likely to reach that threshold again in a Week 7 road game against the Packers.

Set for WR1 role next few weeks

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-09

Diggs is poised to lead Houston's receiving corps for the next four weeks, starting with Sunday's game against the Patriots, as the Texans placed Nico Collins (hamstring) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Diggs has been out-targeted 45-41 by Collins through five games, but Collins has been much more effective with his volume, posting a league-leading 567 receiving yards compared to Diggs' 315. While Diggs' focus on shorter routes will make it tough to replicate Collins' exceptional production, the veteran wide receiver's fantasy stock should nonetheless rise from this development, as Diggs could be in for even more attention from star quarterback C.J. Stroud for the duration of Collins' absence.

Six catches as Collins gets hurt

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-06

Diggs caught six of eight targets for 82 yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Bills.

Diggs finished with the team lead in targets and receiving yards, as Nico Collins exited due to a hamstring injury after turning two targets into 78 yards and a touchdown. While Diggs lacks Collins' downfield explosiveness at this stage of his career, the former Buffalo wide receiver's precise route running and strong hands have helped Diggs rack up 31 catches on 41 targets through five games with Houston, and Diggs could be in line for additional targets from C.J. Stroud in Week 6 against the Patriots if Collins is unavailable.
