Hospitalized due to chest injury

RotoWire Logo Published: 2025-01-13

Rams coach Sean McVay said after the Rams' wild-card win over Minnesota on Monday that Higbee is in the hospital and in stable condition due to the chest injury he suffered during the matchup, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

While McVay's update suggests Higbee's injury is more than minor, the coach also stated of the tight end, "I think he's going to be okay." At this point, it is unclear if Higbee will be able to suit up in next Sunday's divisional-round clash against the Eagles. If he's unable to play, the Rams would likely deploy a tight-end committee of Colby Parkinson, Hunter Long and Davis Allen. All three logged exactly 13 receiving yards (Allen and Long on one catch apiece and Parkinson on two) following Higbee's exit Monday.

Won't return to wild-card contest

RotoWire Logo Published: 2025-01-13

Higbee (chest) has been ruled out from returning to Monday's wild-card matchup versus Minnesota, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.

Brown got off to a red-hot start Monday, catching all five of his targets for 58 yards in the first quarter. However, he was deemed questionable to return due to a chest issue early in the second quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game just after halftime. A combination of Colby Parkinson, Hunter Long and Davis Allen could fill in at tight end for the Rams through the remainder of Monday's game.

Exits wild-card game due to injury

Higbee is doubtful to return to Monday's wild-card matchup against Minnesota due to a chest injury, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Higbee was outstanding early in the contest, catching all five of his targets for 58 yards. However, he's likely done for the day after suffering a chest injury. The veteran tight end missed most of the campaign due to a knee issue, as he didn't suit up until Week 16. Colby Parkinson, Hunter Long and Davis Allen are the other tight ends on Los Angeles' roster.

Strong effort sans fellow starters

RotoWire Logo Published: 2025-01-05

Higbee finished with five receptions on seven targets for 46 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-25 loss to Seattle.

Higbee was one of the few regular starters who head coach Sean McVay did not rest ahead of the upcoming wild-card round of the playoffs. The veteran tight end likely got the extra run after missing most of the regular season rehabbing from an ACL tear in January. Higbee looked like his usual self Sunday, posting a full stat line after meager results in his first two games back. The 32-year-old should be revved up to host the Vikings in next Monday's playoff tilt.

Records nine yards

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-12-28

Higbee recorded two receptions on three targets for nine yards in Saturday's 13-9 win over the Cardinals.

This was Higbee's second game since returning from a torn ACL, so he was likely to be limited in his statistical output regardless of the state of the Rams' offense. However, the unit struggled to get going and ran only 54 total plays, limiting volume for Higbee and all skill-position players with the exception of Puka Nacua. Given both his personal limitations and the offense's recent struggles, expectations should be low for Higbee in Week 18 against Seattle and potentially into the postseason.

Lone catch goes for TD in return

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-12-22

Higbee (knee) caught one of two targets for an 11-yard touchdown in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Jets.

Higbee's first catch of the season was an important one, as he scored to break a 9-9 tie with 10:11 left in the fourth quarter. He was making his season debut after tearing his right ACL in January. The veteran tight end was an above-average pass catcher at his position prior to the injury, but Higbee will likely be limited to a situational role for the remainder of the regular season. Up next for Higbee is a Week 17 home game against the Cardinals.

Should have limited role in debut

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-12-22

Higbee (knee/illness) will make his season debut Sunday against the Jets and is expected to handle about 20-to-25 snaps, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Though an illness prevented Higbee from practicing Thursday, he didn't experience any hiccups with his surgically repaired right knee and headed into the weekend without a designation after returning to practice Friday as a full participant. The absence Thursday marked the only time in the past three weeks of prep that Higbee wasn't listed as a full participant, but the Rams are still aiming to ease the tight end back into the mix Sunday in what will be his first game action since tearing the ACL and MCL in his knee in a Jan. 14 playoff loss to the Lions. While Higbee should start in Week 16, he'll likely be part of a committee at tight end that will likely include Colby Parkinson and Hunter Long, and possibly even Davis Allen, if he's active as a fourth option at the position.

No injury designation

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-12-20

Higbee (knee/illness) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

The Rams listed Higbee as a full participant on seven consecutive practice reports before an illness sidelined him Thursday. He was back to full participation Friday and now appears set to make his 2024 debut, returning from the ACL and MCL tears he suffered in a playoff loss to the Lions in January. Higbee has a long track record of handling huge snap counts but probably won't be tasked with that type of workload in his first game back from major surgery / a prolonged absence.

Comes down with illness

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-12-19

Higbee (knee) missed Thursday's practice due to an illness, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

The Rams waited until the very end of Higbee's 21-day window to activate him from the reserve/PUP list Tuesday. As of Wednesday, he was listed as a full participant on seven consecutive injury reports, but he's now dealing with an illness. With another hurdle in his path to returning to action Sunday at the Jets, it remains to be seen if Higbee will be able to make his first appearance since sustaining ACL and MCL tears in his right knee in a playoff loss Jan. 14 at Detroit.
